Rainforest diving application
Thank you very much for your interest in rainforest diving in Peru. The fact that you are now reading this page means two things:
.
1. You red the previous page thoroughly and you are aware of the increased health risks inherently present in real wilderness expeditions. (In case I am wrong with this presumption, please return now to the previous page and read it, thanks)
2. You consider yourself a diver being sufficiently experienced in wilderness expeditions in order to become enlisted for a rainforest diving expedition.
On this page we want to take things to the next level and give you more detailed and basic information in order for you to be able to decide if participation is of interest and/or appropriate for you.
The expedition we are proposing is a unique opportunity:
Nature Expedition is NOT offering recreational dive packages to the rainforest. What we propose on this page is a one-time dive expedition in June or July 2011 (exact dates will be set soon). The minimum number of participants is 3 divers. Because of the complicated logistics the maximum number of participants is 5.
Yes, you read correctly. We are offering this unique opportunity for only FIVE divers. There is not going to be an increase in the number of participants. So if you want to be part of this amazing adventure you have to register as fast as possible to insure your participation. If you are late we will put you on a waiting list but your chances will be remote.
The most important thing we care about is safety:
After reading the previous page and seeing the movies you are aware of the fact that the area we are going to is an isolated wilderness area and that you are exposed to the dangers inherently present (drowning, snake bites, falls, etc). We will try to build rescue chains as waterproof as possible(antitoxins for snake bites, a medic accompanying the expedition, options for helicopter rescue, or 24 hours on-watch boat and car availability). However to expect that such rescue and safety chains work perfectly and smoothly in such an isolated area would be rather over optimistic.
Therefore the most important thing for us is to AVOID accidents.
That greatly depends on the team. Therefore participation in this expedition is competitive. You will undergo a screening process. We will have a list of medical requirements for you. And we want to learn about your previous experience in expedition teams. We will ask you for references and we will check with these. We will video-interview you. And we will rate you according to our pre-defined criteria.
Your chance to become invited for participation depends on how high you are ranking in the list of participants.
The Expedition:
The expedition is planned for June/July 2011 (exact dates are still to be set).
The expedition’s duration is two weeks.
The expedition will be led by Stefan Austermühle.
The expedition cost to be carried by each participant is 15,000.- $US. This is all-inclusive at national level (includes all transports, equipment transport, overnight, food, terrestrial, etc.). If you want to stay longer in Peru you are of course welcome to book some more marine diving or visits to other Peru destinations with us.
Background information:
Over the course of the next weeks we are going to upload detailed background information about the rainforest of Peru onto this page, covering country and cultural information about the rainforest area, ecology and environment, information about related topics from physiology, medicine, logistics, equipment, detailed expedition description etc. So by having a look at this page from time to time you can keep yourself updated. Applicants will receive this information via email.
4 Steps to become an expedition member
1.) Contact us
- Click the application link at the bottom of this page and send us an email demonstrating your interest to participate. There are two key elements to tell us in your email:
Confirm that you understood the health risks involved with rainforest diving and make a clear statement in your own words exempting Nature Expeditons SAC and Stefan Austermühle as well as any other service provider or staff member of Nature Expeditions or related companies from any form of liability related to any kind of material, physical, mental or fatal damage you may experience during your participation in the expeditions in case your application would be accepted.
Declare that you would be willing and capable to pay the participation fee in case you are selected for participation.
Apart of that you may introduce yourself with everything you find worthwhile telling us about your experience (but please make sure to not write more than three A4-pages and please write only related stuff). The deadline for your email of interest is the end of June 2010.
2.) Application:
After receiving your request we will send you a detailed description of the expedition and all medical health and training requirements you have to comply with in order to be eligible.
Fill out and sign the documents and questioners.
Do the medical checks we are requiring you to do.
Scan the documents and send them back to us via email as adhered documents.
The deadline for your application is 15 of July 2010
3. Selection:
We are going to evaluate your application, check with your references and rank all applicants. If you are not ranking within the five highest ranking applicants we will put you on a waiting list, write you and tell you your rank in the waiting list. You will hear from us latest on 15 of August 2010.
4. Inscription:
If you are selected for participation (five highest ranking applicants) we will ask you to make at least a 50 % down payment on your participation fee (the remaining 50 % are due latest 1 month before expedition start)
Your down payment has to arrive on our account latest on first of September 2010. If your payment has not arrived by that date we will write you an email asking you to check with your bank and give you two more days to confirm your payment being on the way. If not we will invite the highest ranking diver from the waiting list.
OK, that’s all for the moment. So if you are still interested, just click below and write us:
